| Junior Chef - Monday, April 30, 2012The annual Food Festival junior chef heats took place at The Grange on Monday 30th April, when 6 students from Yr 9 and 10 created their own dishes to win a place at the cook-off in the marquee in Wick Lane on Monday 14th May against Highcliffe and Twynham schools.
Students created a two course meal which could be served to athletes at this summer's Olympic games. The judges, local chef, Ian Hewitt, Rotary President Mike Devall, Food Festival president Mary Reader and TV chef and author Lesley Waters had a difficult time choosing a winner from the delicious meals on offer. Eventually Callum Bandey was awarded 1st place for his duck and stir fried vegetables and Olympic cheese cake; 2nd placed went to Joe Cavill and 3rd to Beth Finch. All the students who took part received a signed copy of Lesley Waters latest book. |
| Rock Challenge UPDATE - Wednesday, February 29, 2012
The Grange School dance students took part in the annual, international competition, Rock Challenge, on Monday 27th February at Southampton Guildhall. The 7 minute piece was choreographed by Grange dance teacher, Gemma Mawson, and took as its theme Immortal Love. Over 60 students from Years 7 to 12 participated in the routine which followed a group of mortals and a belfry of vampires do battle to save one of their own from falling in love with the other.
The performance was high in energy, full of passion, drama and emotion enhanced by the creative costumes designed by Liz Woolard.
The Grange was delighted to be awarded three prizes:
• 2nd place overall
• Best Entertainment
• Best Drama
"Rock Challenge has been such a wonderful experience for our pupils and has been a great opportunity to showcase the talents in school. I am absolutely thrilled with the pupils achievement this year, they put a tremendous amount of hard work into the performance and showed 100% enthusiasm, effort, dedication and professionalism throughout the whole process, so 2nd place was very well deserved.” Gemma Mawson

| Sports Hall Build - Monday, February 06, 2012Building work has commenced on our new sports hall, starting with the demolition of our swimming pool. Built by parents and local volunteers in the 70's, the pool has been unused for a couple of years due to the expense of refurbishing it. The new sports hall is scheduled for completion in July 2012 and will be available to hire to the public out of school hours.
Whilst specialist contractors are working on school site we would urge parents and carers to remind their children about the dangers of playing on building sites. The area will be fenced, and all current H & S regulations will be adhererd to.
Architects drawings may be seen here and here. |
| Best VA In Dorset - Saturday, January 28, 2012
Following the publication of the latest school league tables by the Dfe, The Grange School is immensely proud to be top of the table for best progress (VA) in Dorset for a second year.
Headteacher, Steve Dossett, said
“Over recent years students have made very good progress at The Grange and this year’s results are excellent. We are pleased that this is recognised in these league tables. Our Value Added measure for best eight subjects places us at the top of the County for progress. We are especially delighted that our GCSE results in English also place us top of the County for progress and in the 11th percentile nationally for this measure.
We are continuing to grow as a school and are very excited about the construction of our new sports hall facility and vocational classrooms, which will allow us to further broaden our curriculum offer and help to raise standards and achievements even further. ”
Chair of Governors, Mr Michael Turvey added
"Every parent and student should be justifiably proud of the continuing outstanding success of The Grange School. Pupils and staff have worked incredibly hard in order to achieve this amazing record - where students are top of the best progress in Dorset league table." |
